Caves, Kayaks and Seal Pups
Throughout autumn 2017, our marine mammal team was out in the field conducting the first grey seal pup census of the North Wales coastline in over 10 years. The work was conducted on behalf of Natural Resources Wales (NRW) in order to improve understanding on abundance and distribution of seal pups in the region.
Our team used a combination boat, kayak and drone to collect data at difficult to reach pupping sites such as caves and steep cliff faces and visited less cryptic sites on foot. The team are now busy processing the resulting data and working closely with NRW specialists to summarise the findings in a detailed technical report for publication this year. For an insight into the preliminary findings see here.
