Ocean Ecology Takes Delivery
of Best-in-Class Laser Diffractor

24th January 2020

The new year has got off to an exciting start for our sediment laboratory after taking delivery of the latest Beckman Coulter LS 13 320 XR particle size analyser. This system offers best-in-class particle size distribution data enabling high-resolution measurements and an expanded dynamic measurement range of 10 nm – 3,500 µm using laser diffraction technology.

Our sediment scientists have already been putting the system through its paces as the demand for our particle size distribution analysis services has continued to grow during the first part of 2020. With the added benefit of new dry sieving equipment and staff capacity to supplement the arrival of the laser diffractor we’re now able to process an even greater volume of sediment samples as well as offer industry-leading turnaround times.

The continued growth of this area of the organisation has been facilitated through grant funding support from the Cotswolds LEADER Programme which is part-funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. This gratefully received funding allowed for timely investment in the new laser diffraction and sieving equipment ensuring we have been able to make the most of the increasing demand for particle size analysis of marine sediments over recent years.

If you have a requirement for particle size analysis of marine sediments in line with either NMBAQC or MMO validated methodologies then please do not hesitate to get in touch with our sediment laboratory by email.
