OE & Åkerblå Join Forces

We are excited to announce that as of Tuesday 2nd March 2021, Ocean Ecology have become part of the Åkerblå Group, a Norwegian consultancy known for providing world leading fish health, environmental and technical services to the aquaculture sector. It is the only company in the world with accreditation for fish health services.

The move comes as both companies look to fast-track the build-up of a joint service offering to the aquaculture industry in the UK and Ireland as well as catering for Norway’s emerging offshore wind farm industry.

Catering for the UK Aquaculture Sector

In recognition of the importance of having access to specialist services available at the doorstep of existing and prospective aquaculture clients, Åkerblå Group and Ocean Ecology have already established a Scottish presence at the European Marine Science Park in Oban, West Scotland (read more here).

This will provide a platform for delivering Åkerblå and Ocean Ecology’s combined competence right at the centre of to the Scottish aquaculture industry whilst also catering for Ocean Ecology’s growing number of clients operating in the Scottish marine renewables and subsea cables sectors.

Business As Usual

Following completion of the transaction, Åkerblå Group’s CEO, Roger Sørensen, and CFO Frode Westbye will join Ross Griffin and Gary Robinson on the Ocean Ecology board of directors. The board’s focus moving forward is for Ocean Ecology to maintain a ‘business as usual’ strategy allowing for continuation of the healthy growth achieved year on year since its inception in 2013.

This growth will be achieved through continuing to build on its well-established UK offering whilst utilising Åkerblå’s position in Norway to expand its service offering to the Norwegian continental shelf.
