Marine Taxonomists (all levels)
As part of our continued growth in the offshore renewables and aquaculture sectors, we are keen to hear from enthusiastic benthic taxonomists across all levels of experience to join our laboratory teams in Dunstaffnage, Oban.
The following will be essential to be considered for Senior Marine Taxonomist roles:
- Demonstrable expertise in accurate identification of macrobenthic and epibenthic species across all major phyla found in the NE Atlantic;
- A track record in undertaking sample processing quality control checks of the work of other taxonomists;
- Experience working to NMBAQC standards and projects involving external quality audits;
- Experience creating and maintaining reference collections;
- Experience in undertaking ring tests and providing training workshops to junior staff;
- A conscientious and enthusiastic attitude;
- An appreciation of the need to work to tight timeframes within a commercial laboratory setting;
- A clear and demonstrable passion for marine taxonomy; and
- A minimum of a degree in marine biology (or similar marine related discipline).
Desirable skills/experience include:
- Experience in zooplankton, phytoplankton and/or freshwater invertebrate identification;
- Experience in analysis and interpretation of seabed imagery;
- Experience in identification of macrobenthic species from tropical, sub-tropical and/or deeper water environments;
- Record of publishing peer-reviewed research articles relating to marine taxonomy.
The following will be essential to be considered for Marine Taxonomist roles:
- Demonstrable experience in identification of macrobenthic and epibenthic species found in the NE Atlantic;
- Experience working to NMBAQC scheme standards and projects involving external quality control;
- A conscientious and enthusiastic attitude;
- An appreciation of the need to work to tight timeframes within a commercial laboratory setting;
- A clear and demonstrable passion for marine taxonomy;
- A minimum of 2 years professional or post-graduate experience in the field of marine taxonomy; and
- A minimum of a degree in marine biology (or similar marine related discipline).
Desirable skills/experience include:
- Experience creating and maintaining reference collections;
- Experience in analysis and interpretation of seabed imagery;
- Experience in zooplankton, phytoplankton and/or freshwater invertebrate identification;
- A willingness to participate in occasional intertidal and coastal surveys aboard our survey vessels or third party vessels;
