Thanet Extension Offshore Windfarm
Fish and Shellfish Ecology Surveys
Project Description

We were recently commissioned by Vattenfall to undertake a series of site characterisation fish and shellfish surveys at the proposed Thanet Extension offshore wind farm development. These surveys covered the proposed wind farm area and export cable corridor and were used to inform our technical reporting that fed into the wider project Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

The sampling involved otter and beam trawl sampling in both autumn 2016 and spring 2017 followed by detailed data analysis and interpretation to provide a comprehensive characterisation of the fish and shellfish communities. The results were subsequently presented in three technical reports that supported the fish and shellfish ecology chapter of the Environmental Statement (ES). Vattenfall has since praised our processes, industry-leading Health and Safety polices and our reactive approach to conducting the complex sampling programme.
