Standardized guidelines for wellboat inspections

Updated Biosecurity Inspection Guidance

Developed in collaboration with stakeholders across the Scottish aquaculture sector, Ocean Ecology’s Fish Health Team has published updated guidance to support biosecurity inspections of wellboats, vessels and ancillary equipment operating within aquaculture environments. The project combined practical operational experience with industry engagement to help promote a more consistent and evidence-based approach to biosecurity inspections.

Supporting Fish Health Management

Designed to support preventative fish health management and reduce pathogen transmission risk, the guidance provides practical tools and clear inspection protocols for both experienced animal health professionals and early-career inspectors. By working closely with operators, service providers and strategic organisations, Ocean Ecology helped develop a practical framework that supports improved consistency, operational confidence and sector-wide biosecurity standards.
