Macrobenthic

Our laboratories analyse macrobenthic samples from deep sea, continental shelf, coastal and estuarine environments around the world, following stringent QC processes and adhering to the standards of the NMBAQC scheme.

Why work with Ocean Ecology

Facilities fit for purpose

Our dedicated benthic taxonomists process thousands of macrobenthic samples annually for marine developers and regulatory bodies.

All marine analysis is conducted in-house at our own specialist labs in the UK. This enables us to carefully manage projects by providing highly efficient sample processing and reduced lead times while maintaining the highest NMBAQC standards.

The macrobenthic data produced is recorded and managed in compliance with nationally and internationally recognised data standards, such as MEDIN. It is stored in ABACUS, our purpose-built, cloud-based data management system.

This system is integrated with the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) and works with it in real time to ensure our taxonomists have the most up-to-date and authoritative list of species available as they work.

Macrobenthic reference material

We have also built a substantial reference collection of specimens of all unique taxa identified in every project we have completed to date.

This collection of thousands of taxa is continually updated and provides an excellent resource to help our taxonomists work to the same standards.

Using this in conjunction with our extensive taxonomic keys and the highly-efficient sample tracking of ABACUS, enables our taxonomists to process high sample volumes while maintaining the highest quality standards.
