Ocean Ecology exhibiting at Ocean Business 2025

March 18, 2025

We will be showcasing our comprehensive range of services and cutting-edge solutions for the blue economy at the Ocean Business exhibition in Southampton for the first time in April.

As a leading provider of marine ecological and environmental services, we support Environmental Impact Assessments, delivers monitoring programmes, and applies research globally through both traditional and innovative solutions. Joining us on Stand W88 will be Tritonia Scientific, a specialist in 3D photogrammetry and part of the Ocean Ecology Group.

The group designs and conducts surveys, laboratory and data analysis, and provides consultancy to help both businesses and regulators operate sustainably and responsibly across a wide range of sectors.

Ross Griffin, Managing Director of Ocean Ecology Group, said: “We work both offshore and inshore in marine environments all around the world and we have played a vital role in some of the UK’s most significant marine infrastructure projects.

“Our clients operate in diverse sectors, including offshore wind, oil and gas decommissioning, subsea cables, aggregates, dredging, nuclear power, aquaculture and a host of other marine construction projects. In addition, we’ve recently established a specialist fish health unit to provide consultancy, expert advice and support to the aquaculture sector.”

The company was established in 2014 and, since April 2024, has been part of DNV. It now employs more than 100 people, most of whom are based in laboratories and offices in Gloucester, Plymouth and Oban.

“Our success stems from developing a team of highly skilled marine and data scientists who are passionate about their work,” continued Ross.

“We have a culture of continual improvement which, coupled with constant investment in laboratories, field equipment, and operations, ensures we deliver excellence and remain at the forefront of innovation. With techniques like semi-automated mapping, eDNA analysis, and 3D photogrammetry, we can also provide faster, more accurate results while minimising the impact of development on the marine environment.

“Providing our services in-house allows us to ensure quality and reliability from the beginning to the end of any project.

“Using our own vessels and equipment means our survey teams can mobilise quickly. Samples are fully processed and analysed in our laboratories by our own dedicated marine scientists and data is analysed by our team of expert consultants.

“Our data solutions team has even developed a unique and bespoke cloud-based platform, ABACUS, for recording, quality assuring, storing and exporting marine ecological data in compliance with nationally and internationally recognised standards.”

Tritonia Scientific will also be using the exhibition to unveil a new data visualisation platform, Hydrophis.

Martin Sayer, Managing Director of Tritonia, explained: “Using georeferenced 3D photogrammetry and incorporating a wide range of other survey and data types, Hydrophis is a bespoke platform designed to revolutionise how your organisation hosts, visualises, and analyses marine data. It provides you with the tools to see beyond the surface, providing underwater clarity.”

Ross Griffin added: “As a group, we really are a one-stop shop for marine environmental and ecological services and we ensure customer service and scientific innovation are at our core. We’re looking forward to meeting visitors, listening to their needs and showing them what we have to offer on Stand W88 in the Dockside Exhibition Hall.”

Ocean Business runs at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton from 8-10 April 2025.
