Monitoring and Compliance

In early 2024, we supported the University of Hamburg in an innovative study aboard the RV Meteor. This project explored the hypothesis that the Mediterranean Sea, which dried up six million years ago, was reformed by the dramatic ‘Zanclean megaflood.’

Our marine mammal observers played a critical role in the research, monitoring marine mammals and other marine life during seismic investigations from Sicily to Malaga. Sperm whales, loggerhead turtles, and striped dolphins were among the many species observed during the project, demonstrating the biodiversity of this historic marine region.
